Privacy online and off

Electronic Tattoo's:

This is very interesting to me because I never put together how much privacy we don't have. A tattoo is a way to tell someone apart from some one else. For example with commiting a crime if the person commiting the crime has a tattoo it is a lot easier to find him than with someone who doesn't, why? because tattoos stay forever, you find the tattoo you find the suspect. That being said and electronic tattoo is very dangerous when things like facebook use face recognition. When you post to facebook, facebook suggests people that are in the photo with you to ask if you want to tag them. That leaves a danger to us because that means that our faces our out there for people to then identify us. An example that was brought up during this video was how if someone even has your face they can fins out interests you have, like in the video when he said you can walk into a store and they would be able to tell you like black dresses just from posts that you have shared so the worker will then come up and say I have 5 black dresses in stock. Before even sharing your interest in black dresses.

Car tracking:

Where you choose to drive is no longer private. There is a license plate tracker on most streets, this then allows the government to see where you are going and compare it to other people and judge you based on who you are with or where you are going where that be church, work, or even leaving your driveway. Even innocent people's information are being stored, just incase it will be useful in the future.

Telephone wires:

telephone companies have wired surveillance through our phone. That means that phone calls with doctors, family members, or anyone can be getting listened to. Phone calls are the easiest things to wire tap. Text messages are harder to get into then phone calls. It might be our own government or it could be foreign countries, hacker, or criminals. They get away with doing this because they believe that there are terrorists or drug dealers calls that they want to intercept. The point that he was making was that we all use the same way of communicating as drug dealers or terrorist therefore we all are as easy to hack and get our information.

Revenge porn turning life upside down:

We all know that once the internet has something it never goes away. A very big percentage of women are effected by revenge porn and if have not yet then most likely will be in the future. Woman lose jobs, have suicide thoughts, their whole lives are flipped and all because of jealous ex or revenge on someone. To get something off the internet or at least shut a website down it takes a lot of time in court, a lot of money, and a lot of frustration. In her case he was stalking her from another country and while she had to take time to find him and then bring him into court her pictures that were leaked of her were still on the website letting more and more people see them.

What I learned:

What I learned was that no matter how private you think a phone call, a conversation, a text message, or pictures are; nothing and I mean nothing is ever truly private and confidential. A lot of people have access to a lot of your information and it can cause you a lot of danger. I would say we should be careful by what information we are posting to social medias, but it seems like it is a lot more serious than just that, even in the comfort of your own home you are being watched, listened to, and being spied on, and not just by our government, hackers have a way of hacking into this data as well.

illusory truth effect

What is it?

When repeated false information enough times, people will begin to believe that it is true

Background

The first study on the subject in 1977 at Villanova university and Temple university. People were asked to judge statements some being true some being false, over a period of time. When people participating in this experience, the more they heard the false information over time the more they started to believe it. This is a great way to explain how rumors get spread, a lot of people just believe what they hear, they don't go to the extra step to find out the information. They take this information they hear and go along and tell other people confidently even if they don't mean to spread false information just because that is to what they believe true.

Results

Researchers who were working on this experiment found that after telling their participants the fake information the results were that the participants were more likely to rate trivia statement and headlines as true if they had seen or heard them them previously before.

Echo Chamber

What?

Echo chambers are an environment where a person only encounters information or opinions that reflect and reinforce their own. In other words they favor information that reinforces existing beliefs, this is also known as a confirmation bias which goes hand and hand with echo chambers.

Why?

The are used to create misinformation, also to change a persons perspective so they have trouble considering other viewpoints.

When?

They can happen anywhere information is exchanged whether that be social media or face to face. Since now a days everyone is on the internet it makes it a lot easier for people to fall into echo chambers.

How to avoid:

Now that you are aware of what an echo chamber is you should try to avoid them at all costs. First you need to know how to realize a website or a social group is one, to do so you can ask yourself these questions: Is there only one perspective on a topic? Is the viewpoint supported by rumors? Are facts ignored when they go against the viewpoint? Once we have identified them we can avoid falling into them by checking multiple news sources, interacting with people who have different perspectives, and lastly have an open opinion on all topics.

What Does The Internet Tell About You

What Can a Stranger Find Out About You

The internet is a very useful thing to have, but can sometimes be to helpful. The internet is a very sneaky program that can take your information sometimes without you knowing it is doing so. When the internet taking this information it is impossible to get back. That being said a lot of people can find out that information about you and use it against you. A lot of hackers get peoples passwords through information they give the internet. For example, if you put your real birthday onto a social media website and something personal to you like a pet name or first car, something security questions usually ask you, then it makes it easy for a hacker to hack.

To test this out I looked up my own name, doing this the first thing that popped up was my facebook page. Even though my name is a pretty common name my profile was still the top 5 to pop up. Under Images on google there were a lot of pictures of women, but luckily none of me. I believe this is because all my accounts are private so unless someone i let follow me, which is all my friends that i personally know, leaked one of my photos into a different place on the internet, my photos for the most part are secure.

This being said it is extremely important to be carefully posting information about yourself on the internet. For your safety it is better to use fake birthdays and try to leave out as much information that you can about yourself. No one really needs to know about you on the internet, if they want to know that stuff about you then they should meet up in person. Even then you should trust the person yuo are telling this information to and it should be a close friend of family member, someone that you know wouldn't harm you with the information they get about you.

Snapchat

What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is a social media platform that allows people to communicate instantly. Snapchat is a great way to stay in touch with people either that you don't see very often or that you see every day. Using snapchat you can send pictures back and forth to people while sharing funny filters or text on the picture. Snapchat also has a twist that is different than any other social media app, what ever you send disappears in at most 10 seconds unless what you sent is screen-sh
otted.

Theory of Diffusion

The theory of diffusion is applied to this because since time has changed so much over the generations calling people is not enough anymore. What I mean by that is the new thing when our parents were growing up was cell phones in general then it became texting and now they are expanding social media so much that we need to see people everyday by sending pictures of our faces to them to communicate. Instead of actually wanting to talk to people we care about a 'streak' with someone. A 'streak' on Snapchat is something your receive next to the person name after you snap chat consecutively for at least 3 days.

Theory of Diffusion also exists inside the Snapchat app itself. The Snapchat company is constantly sending out updates through the app, fixing the problems or adding a new feature. When Snapchat first started off it was as simple as sending a picture back and forth to someone. Now, you can facetime, text, use filters, draw on the picture, post a story for all of your friends to see, look at news articles, and even have a Bitemoji which is a cartoon like description of yourself for people to know what you look like. They also have made a new feature to look and see where your friends are if they choose to share their location with you. Snapchat is a big part of our world today and people continue to try and change it for the better everyday.

promote innovation

What is it?

Promoting innovation is where your freedom to speech is protected. This is a very friendly way for society to be able to say what they want to say. Since society is comfortable speaking how they please, they are happier and their moods change for the better.

Why is it important that we have this?

Since having this society has spoke out about whatever they feel they need to have talked about. I think it is important for society to feel comfortable saying what ever is on their minds and being able to share that with others who also might have the same opinion. Although there could be difficulties with this for example people disagreeing with each other, I say that it is better to have some disagreements rather than be told you can't speak out.

Paralyzed Dog is Cured

Acupuncture Miracle

Dinky was a little dachshund dog that had a terrible thing happen to him but that didnt stop him from being the happiest dog there was. Dinky was paralyzed from the waist down which meant his legs and tail were unable to move properly. If you refer to the article you can see in the video that is attached that he could barley use his back legs at all, he was just dragging them around on the floor as he would get from place to place. After the first couple of treatments his body did not respond the way that the veterinarians wanted it to. After multiple sessions of electroacupuncture Morgan said " we were so excited he's tail was wagging and he was running around the room, we were surprised he could walk after his first treatment he was up and walking and just kept improving over the next sessions." Morgan also said that she expects Dinky, to have a full recovery. It's a miracle what can happen after such a long time of thinking that nothing would be able to fix the impossible.

It's so impressive to see how far we have come with science. It amazes me that we can have a dog that couldn't walk and now give him the ability to get the strength in his legs to run and play like all other dogs can do. If you also want to see how impressive it is check out the Original Post to see the results of the little dog and how his life has changed dramatically.
